Is there Such a Thing as a Beautiful Website on the Cheap?

We think so. Ever heard of the holy trinity of building stuff? Everyone wants something built cheaply, well, and fast. The rule is that you can get two of three, but not all three. If you’re on the cheap + good side of the triangle, here’s something for you.

I’ve been taking a class with some fellow entrepreneurs who are working on pushing their business to the next level. Almost all of them expressed frustration with the technical aspects of their business. To do business at all, you need to have a web presence. The more professional your web presence, and the more it conveys why people should do business with you, the more it will generate new business.

One of the things my company does very well is building websites that are great at convincing visitors why they should do business with you. We build these sites using technologies like WordPress, jQuery, and php. All these tools are built by the open source community, so they are free or nearly free. We put great, intuitive design onto these smart little parts to make something big and bold and awesome.

But what if you don’t have the funds for a knock-your-socks-off website? What if you just need to start somewhere small? How about conveying what makes your business unique, showing some lovely photos of what people get when they do business with you, and providing contact information?

We are working on a program called Trillamar School of Webcraft that is designed to help companies who are on the good and cheap side of the triangle. As for a fast solution, you’re out of luck. If you’re willing to put in some time, we can help you build something good and be master of your own domain.

core value #4: client self-sufficiency. We love to empower our clients to own their web presence and update their site themselves.

I’m a strong proponent of including a training part in our web design + build proposals. The happiest clients are those who are self-sufficient and can update their site after the project is over. It usually means we make some custom how-to videos taking them step-by-step through the process. Trillamar School of Webcraft was envisioned to support them, as well as groups who aren’t in a position to invest in a fancy, custom site.
